Ghost Town of Jean, Nevada
Taking long drives when the weather cools off and the beautiful sunsets come out is probably one of our most favorite things in the whole wide world to do.
We drove into Jean, Nevada off the I-15 and came into a little mining town called Goodsprings. Named for Cattlemen Joseph Good, the open springs area was developed into a mining ranching community.
When LA was complete and the LA to Salt Lake Railroad in 1905 was created and the transfer of Zinc skyrocketed; this mining town came up to around 800 residents! Bringing in a total of $25 million dollars worth of mining!
With the town being predominantly men a lot of drinking took place at Pioneer Saloon. GoodSprings was originated by George Fayle in 1904 originally from Calico, Nevada. He later opened a Mercantile Store, a Hotel in 1905 and named GoodSprings to Jean, Nevada after his wife Jean in 1912.
