Being Both Mentally and Physically Prepared

Being Both Mentally and Physically Prepared

As I prepare with my coach the plan to implement for my next show, we discussed doing Battle in the Desert late June and Master Nationals mid July since it is right around the corner.  And I suddenly felt a sense of shear anxiety compel me to think twice about going right back into prep mode.

You see,  After receiving Overall in my last competition, I ask myself “Am I ready for Master Nationals in 12 weeks?”  "Should I enjoy this moment and take some time off?"  And I remembered the mistake I made last year at the 2018 Carribean Grand Prix in December in the Bahamas.

It was my 1st Pro Qualifying Show (right after i had won my very first Overall in November) and I wanted to jump right into winning a potential at getting my Pro Card and even Austin Karr at the Steve Karr had mentioned to me that I was not ready for that show and BOY was he right.  Even though I did place 3rd in my Class.

SOOOO even though coach was a little disappointed, he completely understood.  So we went back to the drawing board and I am going to take a 8 month break and "Bulk" up for 4 months (getting to about 145 lbs) and then taper back down for another 4 months until I reach my weight stage at 122b.  That way I will have listened to what Patrick Sampson (Head NPC Judge) and bulk up my shoulders, legs and back which is exactly what the judges at the Carribean Grand Prix told me as well.

Receiving my score back from the judges, I’m clearly back in bulk mode ready to gain more muscle and size in my shoulders, legs and back.  Which is a great feeling knowing that I can enjoy the Summer, travel and spend time with my family.

Now I have more time to invest into my body by taking my time and most importantly, staying healthy and not pushing the envelope trying to win in a rush.

I’m also super pumped about training with my coach in our new training program for me to become even bigger during my Bulk and that is for me to train for 2 hours 3 days a week instead of 1 hour 4 days a week.  So instead of me going into the gym around 6-7pm for my 3rd set focusing on Abs and Calves, I now can take more time to rest which I think is super crucial.  Talk about communicating and growing implementing a thorough plan!!!  Man I’m so stoked about this.  I love my trainer, I love my fitness family, love my spouse and deep down inside I don’t want too much to change right now.  Just want to grow and mentally prepare for December.

IFBB Pro Card here we come!
